Most of the people use public transport daily, at least one type of it. In a city like Tehran, with more than 8.5 million population, it is needless to say that public transport can be crowded, especially during peak hours. Besides chairs the interaction point with the public transport is the bars and handles.
As an experiment with design methodologies, I designed metro handles based on two famous ones. Nigel cross methodology and Kansei engineering which have different perspectives on design and interpreting the findings. One is a scientific design method, and one is emotion-based.
Steps and stages in these two methodologies were so different, required different tools and approaches. The users, context and existing products were studied to have a better understanding of the problem. Then the steps in each methodology were followed and led to have completely different products at the end.
